Tia Juana Rue (Futrell) Platt was born March 4, 1927 to Laudell J. and Mayme (Noland) Futrell in Paoli, Okla.
She grew up in Paoli and graduated from Paoli H. S. in 1944. She attended Oklahoma A&M. in Stillwater, Okla. for three years, where she met and later married Joseph Edwin Bill Platt on June 7, 1947. They moved to Oklahoma City for two years, then to Ponca City, Okla., for nine years, where two sons, Stephen William (2/14/50) and Gary Alan (12/21/1953), were born. In 1958, the family moved back to Stillwater and she enrolled at OSU, graduating in 1959.
Tia passed peacefully in Riverton, Wyoming on September 30, 2017.
Her husband Bill Platt, former KSPI Sports Broadcaster and Voice of the OSU Cowboys at the time, preceded her in death in 1997.
Tia is survived by her two sons, Gary Allen (Bradenton, FL) and Stephen William (Lander, WY); two daughters-in-law, Mary Louise and Patricia Ann; two sisters Dorthea Boston (OKC) and Wilma Minyen (Norman); four grandchildren, Dustin (wife Jennifer), Christopher (wife Alisia), Mary Kathrine (husband John), and Stephanie, all Platts; and two great-grandchildren, Daxton and Jasmine.
Tia was a substitute teacher in the Stillwater Public School System for almost three decades and was an avid golfer.
A memorial service was held in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church on October 11, 2017, followed by internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater.
